Events and Projects supported by Friends of the Carrollton Public Library:

Funds raised by the Friends of the Library allow the hard-working and creative Library staff to present these programs, reaching a larger audience every year!

  • Summer Reading Program 2016, which included funding for prizes and special events:
    • 1,184 books given as prizes
    • Mobile Dairy Classroom
    • Karate Demonstration by Carrollton Sidekicks
    • H2-Olympics
    • U Jam Fitness
    • Animal Athletes with Zooniversity
    • Yoga for Kids
    • Escape from Couch Potato Land with the Pipdillys
    • “Whirled on a String” Science of Spin
    • Hula Hooping with Swiss
  • For Summer Reading 2017, software to register kids and adults and log minutes spent reading was purchased, as well as prizes, including beads, gift certificates, and signed books.
  • Other Summer 2017 programs planned: a puppeteer, Lego programs, Zooniversity, and an End-of-Summer Pool party at Rosemeade Pool for kids and one for Teens with a DJ.
  • Preschool programs weekly all year long, including literacy skill-building activities to improve reading and kindergarden readiness. Programs follow school curriculum.
  • Story Time on Saturdays and Thursday evenings
  • For National Library Week, a visit by local author Polly Holyoke, author of The Neptune Project and The Neptune Challenge.
  • Fall Festival with games, crafts, treats, face painting and a cupcake walk. More than 800 people attended.
  • Elephant and Piggy Thankarama. 80 children attended.
  • Thanksgiving Art Event. 99 people attended.
  • Winter Wonderland with Santa and storytime. 300 people attended.
  • Twelve Days of Winter Break
  • For teens: Updated board and electronic games, and Crafternoons once per month (70 people attended.) Also, an Anti-Valentines Day party. Teens Take Over Night once a month, with themed programs such as Dr. Who, Sherlock Holmes, Japanese animation, Art etc.

Past projects have included:

  • 20 iPads for patron checkout
  • New alphabet rug for the children's area at the Josey Ranch Library and play cubes for each library
  • Early Literacy Station for the Hebron and Josey Library
